Thoughts Are Not Facts

$3.00
Translation missing: en.products.product.view_full_details

There are instances where someone might believe that their thoughts are automatically the truth. However, thoughts are not always accurate reflections of reality. Clients may struggle with this and experience feelings of doubt, worry, or sadness as a result. Realizing that thoughts can sometimes be misleading is an important step in learning to challenge and change them.

The Thoughts Are Not Facts poster reminds clients that not all thoughts are true. This is a common teaching in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). It encourages them to question their thoughts, especially when they contribute to negative emotions, and evaluate whether those thoughts are grounded in reality or just merely perceptions shaped by their emotions.

Displaying this poster in therapy offices, classrooms, or at home helps kids and teens manage negative thoughts. Pairing it with a journal encourages self-reflection.

During sessions, therapists can have them engage in a quick "thought check-in" where they share one positive thought and one negative thought they are experiencing.

The 3 C’s of Cognitive Therapy poster and Challenging Negative Thoughts poster are nice add-ons.
