Happiness Mindsets

A happy mindset involves maintaining a positive and hopeful outlook. Individuals with this mindset concentrate on finding solutions to problems rather than dwelling on them, and they take notice of the positive elements in their lives. Research shows that the way we think about ourselves, our goals, and our social relationships can influence our happiness.

The Happiness Mindsets handout teaches clients three types of mindsets vital for their happiness: optimism, gratitude, and growth mindset. Each mindset includes a simple explanation of what the mindset entails and includes a list of action steps clients can take to practice each one.

Learning about and understanding positive mindsets allows kids and teens to approach challenges with a constructive outlook. To support young people in adopting positive mindsets, caring adults can place the handout in visible areas of their room and be available to discuss and practice these mindsets together.
