Building Resilience (PDF)

Resilience is the ability to handle challenges and bounce back from difficult situations. It enables clients to build inner strength and grow emotionally. Many young people who feel overwhelmed and find it hard to cope will benefit from learning resilience, so they can overcome life’s struggles and move forward.

The Building Resilience (PDF) handout teaches clients 10 tips, such as maintaining a solution-oriented mindset and knowing when to seek help from others. It also includes positive statements they can say to themselves to boost their confidence, along with a circle of control showing what they can and cannot control.

Using this handout helps young people learn how to handle problems better and take small steps toward feeling more in control of their emotions. Making a list of personal goals based on the tips they learn can also give them a clearer path to follow as they work on becoming more resilient.

Caring adults can share stories of people who stayed strong during tough times as inspiration.

This handout pairs nicely with our Building Resilience Worksheet. We also offer a 12-page How To Building Resilience handouts bundle.
