DBT HALT Handout (PDF)
HALT is an acronym for Hungry, Angry, Lonely, and Tired which can be early warning signs of a tense body and a worried mind. These behaviors lead to irritability, poor decision-making, emotional outbursts, isolation, and fatigue. Awareness of these early signs is important to support fulfillment of your basic needs.
The DBT HALT Handout (PDF) includes a set of questions that might stop clients from engaging in self-destructing behaviors and suggests self-care tips to manage symptoms. It’s a handy resource to raise awareness about early warning signs of a distressing situation and ways to manage them.
This handout is a good reminder for clients to practice self-care such as eating regular meals or drinking water, managing their negative emotions, socializing, and getting proper rest. It pairs nicely with our DBT HALT Skill Worksheet to help kids and teens practice self-care techniques and manage early warning signs of distress.
