Coping Skills for Stress Management

Handling stress in a healthy way is an important skill for everyday situations and unexpected challenges. When stress builds up, it can affect one’s mood, focus, sleep, and mental health. Having coping skills remains one of the most effective ways to manage stress, especially during moments that feel overwhelming.
The Coping Skills for Stress Management handout introduces clients to over 40 ways to handle stress. It includes a mix of calming techniques, physical activities, and creative tools, which makes it easier to explore what fits best for different situations.
This resource can be used by students of all ages as they develop their own stress management plans. A helpful way to start is by creating a personal calm-down chart with go-to actions like taking a walk, doodling, or using breathing cards that they can turn to.
Caring adults can encourage kids to keep a “stress journal” filled with helpful reminders, drawings, or short notes about what has worked for them in the past. Simply flipping through it can bring comfort and make it easier to pick a calming activity.
This handout is included in our 11-page Mental Health Coping Skills Bundle, and we also have a version of it included in our 39-page Stress Management Handouts Bundle.
