What is a Panic Attack?
A panic attack happens as a result of a stressful experience, but it can also occur for no reason. While teens are more likely to have them, children are not exempted. Kids and teens feel a variety of symptoms, including the feeling of dying — although panic attacks are not life-threatening.
This handout explains the panic attack cycle, how it differs from anxiety, and treatments and quick tips to overcome it. Support parents and caregivers by explaining to them how each strategy works so they’ll be ready the next time a panic attack is about to happen.
