Mindfulness - How To Build Resilience

Mindfulness is a simple yet powerful practice that can be done anytime and anywhere. Practicing mindfulness regularly has been linked to greater happiness, which is known to support longevity and a higher quality of life. Research also shows that mindfulness is connected to higher levels of resilience and lower levels of stress.
The Mindfulness handout gives clients an overview of what mindfulness is and how it can support them. It introduces the five senses (5-4-3-2-1) technique to help ground them in the present moment, encourages observing thoughts and feelings without judgment, and reminds them that it’s okay to start small.
Practicing mindfulness helps kids and teens manage stress, and stay focused. The handout can be used at home, in therapy sessions, at school, or even during transitions (like before a test). For best results, encourage them to practice mindfulness regularly, even for just a few minutes each day.
Adults can support this practice by encouraging mindful movement, such as stretching or walking. Check out this handout for simple ideas.
