Reading Social Cues

$3.00

Social cues, such as body language, facial expressions, and tone of voice are important in helping client’s understand how others feel and respond appropriately. This skill can be learned through experience, but some individuals may need additional time and guidance. The good news is that, with consistent practice, clients can improve their ability to understand social cues.

The Reading Social Cues handout teaches clients four types of social cues: facial expressions, body language, personal space, and the tone and volume of voice. It also includes important details, such as examples of eye and mouth movements, and additional thoughts that provide a better understanding of social cues.

This resource supports mental well-being by reducing confusion and encouraging positive social connections.

Caring adults can offer gentle reminders to pay attention to others’ reactions during conversations. Discussing emotions and practicing mindful observation also strengthens a child’s ability to interpret social cues.

Our Reading Social Cues worksheets provide additional activities to support this handout.
