Remembering how you felt at different times can feel difficult, especially when you have a lot going on. Young people might deal with school stress, friends, and family issues. Even though it's challenging to do, understanding and handling these feelings remains important so they can get through their day better and stay calm.
The "A Time I Felt" worksheet is a simple tool that helps clients remember experiences that caused certain emotions. It highlights seven common emotions a person may feel, such as happiness, sadness, anger, nervousness, or confusion. To complete it, clients are instructed to write down the times they felt each of these emotions in the clock figures provided.
The process of completing this worksheet helps increase self-awareness and emotional understanding, especially for kids who are still learning to identify and manage their feelings. They can accompany this activity with journaling to reflect on their emotions and start to recognize patterns in their reactions.
Parents and teachers can support children by discussing these emotions with them, helping them remember and describe the situations that led to each feeling. Then, they can analyze their answers and offer ways to cope for better emotional control.
