Communication Skills Worksheets (2 Pages)

Good communication is more than just choosing the right words—it’s about how we listen, respond, and use our body language. Whether in friendships, classrooms, or everyday conversations, good communication skills can change how others feel about and understand someone. Learning to communicate and recognize both verbal and non-verbal communication is key to clear and respectful interactions.

The Communication Skills Worksheets include two separate but complementary worksheets. Improving Your Communication Skills guides clients through tasks like matching non-verbal behaviors to actions, interpreting body language, and choosing the best responses for common situations. Understanding Communication Verbal and Non-Verbal Cues helps clients analyze emotions through facial expressions, identify verbal and non-verbal cues from a word pool, and match the right emotion word with a facial expression.

These activities help kids and teens build the ability to “read between the lines” and understand what others might be feeling, even when no words are spoken. A helpful tip is to watch a short movie or show clip with the sound turned off, then guess the characters’ emotions and intentions based on their actions.

Parents and teachers can also try a simple game—let kids take turns acting out feelings using only their faces or gestures, while others guess the emotion.

Our How To Improve Communication Skills handout pairs nicely with these worksheets.
