People with a growth mindset believe that challenges can help them improve and succeed. Because of this, they are more likely to put in effort and learn from their mistakes. While not everyone easily adopts this mindset, developing it at a young age enables people to persevere through challenges as they grow older.
The Growth Mindset handout is a useful guide that encourages clients to believe that their intelligence and abilities can grow and improve over time. This visual resource explains what a growth mindset is and offers a list of alternative thoughts to replace negative ones. It also provides ideas for what they can tell themselves when they make a mistake.
Using this handout regularly helps young people achieve more and improve their problem-solving skills in various areas of their lives. Guided sessions with adults, including brief lessons and one-on-one discussions, can further deepen their understanding and apply growth mindset principles more effectively.
Caring adults can encourage kids to set personal goals and track their progress. They can also hold “reflection sessions” where children discuss what they've learned from their experiences.
