Communication Styles

There are many ways people communicate, but some communication styles can lead to misunderstandings and make it difficult to express oneself effectively. This can create barriers for those trying to connect with others. Fortunately, there are also more clear and proper ways to communicate that can help clients maintain healthy relationships.
The Communication Styles handout explores different ways of communicating with others. It breaks down four main communication styles: passive, aggressive, passive-aggressive, and assertive. It also explains how each style affects relationships and offers relatable examples.
By using this handout, kids and teens can reflect on their own habits when communicating and improve their conversations. To reinforce these lessons, caring adults can discuss real-life examples of these styles in both formal and informal settings.
Role-playing activities can further help them practice handling different scenarios, such as resolving conflicts with friends or asking for help from a teacher.
Our 4-page Communication Styles worksheets nicely complement this handout.
