All About Perseverance

Perseverance, often referred to as "grit," is the ability to persist in pursuing goals or passions despite facing difficulties or setbacks. It is one of the hardest traits to develop for some, but many can still push through with determination. Research shows that when children lack perseverance, their learning and potential can be hindered, as they may not fully engage with difficult tasks or learn to overcome obstacles independently.

The All About Perseverance handout is a valuable resource where clients can better understand the concept of perseverance and develop this essential character strength. It defines perseverance in clear and simple terms and suggests incorporating the word "yet" into their self-talk. Clients will also see a list of positive coping statements to stay motivated during difficult times.

Using this handout helps kids and teens develop self-discipline and the continuous drive to achieve their goals. To maximize the handout, caring adults can encourage children to practice daily goal-setting, such as planning their study schedule. Children can also be taught the importance of balance by incorporating self-care practices into their routines.

This handout pairs well with our 3-page Perseverance Worksheets.
